Week 2- Breaking The Rules In Designing

Reflection - Rules that Designers broke in Design/Work/Fashion.

Being a designer does not necessarily means that you have to break all rules when designing. Some designers get out of their comfort zones and come up with fantastic ideas for their products. Being able to break the rules in designing also meant that the artist itself has to be really creative, innovative and not to forget, being daring enough to explore and play around with different mediums and many more. Here is one artist that I have come across and would like to share his outstanding designs that caught my attention.

                                                         Artist chosen - Gareth Pugh.

This was one of his designs. He uses monochromatic colours like white and black and he uses bold and huge items like this head gear or rather an 'accessory' which I think is rather weird to do so especially on the runway.

This is also another design that he came up with. It is rather odd because of the hat that is being used. He uses daring methods and ways to make his designs outstanding even though it is just in basic colours. The hat he used reminds me of straw hats as the loose ends reminds me of those loose straws used during the olden days. It is bold and eye catchy to use such an item especially during a fashion show.

This piece seems like its being made of metal pieces. it looks oddly nice and creative as fashion is all about creating something different and one of a kind. I think for this outfit, Gareth did not play by the rules of creating such bold items. This suit or rather outerwear would not be very nice and fashionable if it is worn in the wrong manner. Some people might not be able to carry out this outfit well, hence this outfit is a bit risky yet still fashionable.

This looks like an inspired piece from wizard of the oz. he daringly uses many shapes and textures and layers to make it look really interesting.

Another interesting design that he created. definitely not just layers of clothing but with props as part of the outfit as well as the head gear.

This is another design that he came up with. It is basically like a very structured outfit with grids and leather at the bottom. I like this outfit a lot as it is simple yet classy in a way. It gives a strong impression because of the way he structured the top to make it look chic.

This definitely looks like an outfit made out of plastic or raincoat material. It is really catchy as it is draped with a bit of flowy effect. The design is really unique and also very bold.

This outfit is a dress. It has this flowy effect like the one above. It is captivating because of the golden patch of fabric that looks like maze. It is glittery and a bit of sparkling. The turtle neck leather piece that she is wearing on the inside is also attractive and matches nicely with the gold details. This outfit is quite bold as they put two types of bold materials together- leather and gold.

All black is also one of the trends in fashion shows. All black is being classy. This outfit is also quite bold and interesting. Mixed with layers of fabric and a long bell like pants. The layered top is outstanding while the big flowy bell shaped pants is outstanding for the bottoms.

I think that Gareth Pugh's designs are all really interestingly unique and that they are creative and one of a kind. The colours that he used for 2015's season is basic colours like black and white however, he broke the rules in fashion and made a fashion statement, bringing the fashion level to another level. His daring and outgoing designs and outfits makes it look really unique and outstanding. He also broke the rule of just having layers of cloth above one another but having these odd items and daring designs. I think that being able to come up with unique designs, the designer needs to be courageous enough to experiment different ways and mix and match the garments till they find a right outfit that is outstanding enough to venture the market. Breaking the rules in design is not that easy nor that tough, it just requires a lot of courage to be bold and dare to try out new things like new designs, mixing fabrics together to give a different look and also just never stop trying to work with interesting and weird items. Who knows? Mixing a different fabric with one funky colour will allow the outfit to be outstanding and gorgeous.
